Microsoft recently announced a way to install Windows 11 Pro on PCs that don’t meet its minimum requirements, but here’s the thing: just because you can doesn’t mean you should. The risks are high, and there are better ways to prepare for the future of your technology.

Let’s break down why forcing Windows 11 Pro onto unsupported PCs can lead to more headaches than it’s worth.

What’s the Workaround?

Microsoft now allows Windows 11 Pro to be installed on unsupported PCs, even those without a TPM 2.0 chip (a key requirement). But here’s the catch: Microsoft clearly states that it doesn’t recommend it.

Why? Unsupported PCs won’t get updates — including critical security patches, could crash or run poorly due to compatibility issues, and aren’t covered by warranties if problems occur.

If you install Windows 11 Pro on an unsupported device, you’re essentially opting out of Microsoft’s support and taking on all the risks yourself.

What Could Go Wrong?

Even supported devices sometimes face challenges with Windows 11 Pro. For unsupported systems, the risks are much greater:

  • Security risks: Without updates, your PC is vulnerable to malware and other threats.

  • Performance issues: Compatibility problems can cause system crashes and slow performance.

  • Limited options to go back: You only have 10 days to revert to Windows 10 after upgrading — after that, it’s a full reinstall.

In short, forcing Windows 11 Pro onto older hardware could leave you with a PC that’s less secure, less stable, and harder to manage.

Better Options for the Future

Instead of taking the risky route, here’s how to move forward with confidence:

Stick with Windows 10 (for now)

Windows 10 is supported until October 2025, giving you time to plan your next steps. It’s a reliable option for older devices that ensures security and stability for a while longer.

Consider an Upgrade

New devices that meet Windows 11 Pro’s requirements deliver better performance, stronger security, and a smoother experience. Investing in future-ready hardware now can save time and trouble down the road.
