“In my role, I see myself as a blend of all three,” Shameer explains. “I’m constantly dreaming up new ways to leverage technology, designing strategies to overcome challenges, and delivering outcomes that make a real impact.”
A Journey Marked by Resilience + Adapatability
Shameer’s journey at Compugen didn’t follow the traditional path. In fact, it’s one marked by significant pivots and moments of personal reinvention. Originally moving to Canada on a student visa to pursue Mechanical Engineering, he soon encountered challenges that many immigrants face.
"After graduating, I quickly realized that the licensing requirements in the field posed significant challenges, and I found myself struggling to find a job in my chosen field,” he recalls.
That struggle led Shameer to make a bold decision — to pivot into IT.
It was during an 8-week program with NPower Canada that Shameer got his first real taste of IT, a field he had not considered before. The program led to his first opportunity at Compugen as a Technical Field Representative, where he was tasked with installing time-punching clocks at the Toyota plant in Cambridge on a 30-day contract.
"It was a humble start," Shameer reflects. “But entering Compugen was a turning point in my life. I haven’t looked back since.”
From there, Shameer quickly demonstrated his ability to learn and adapt, taking on increasingly challenging roles. He moved from Deskside Analyst to Modern Workspace Consultant, then to Solutions Specialist, and now into his current leadership position as Technical Delivery Lead.
"Each role has offered me unique opportunities to grow, learn, and contribute to the company’s success," Shameer says.
He’s been fortunate to have had a variety of experiences that have broadened his perspective on IT solutions, service delivery, and client satisfaction.
Mentorship is The Key to His Leadership Style
Shameer credits his growth at Compugen to the guidance and mentorship he has received from influential leaders
within the company.
“Vini Miki has been instrumental in shaping my approach to leadership. From him, I’ve learned that true leadership isn’t just about making decisions; it’s about valuing and understanding the people those decisions affect,” he explains. “It’s a lesson I carry with me in everything I do.”
He also points to the support he’s received from Dionne Lim, another key figure in his journey.
“As a first-generation immigrant, navigating cultural nuances and communication challenges can be difficult. Dionne has always been there to offer support and advice, no matter how small the concern. It’s helped me grow both personally and professionally.”
Thriving on Challenges + Collaboration
For Shameer, the most rewarding part of his role is the impact that Compugen’s solutions have on their clients. In his current role, Shameer focuses on analyzing infrastructure, identifying roadblocks, and contributing to service improvement plans.
“There’s a deep sense of satisfaction that comes from working through challenges and seeing the positive results we achieve for our clients.”
Shameer’s ability to problem-solve and his passion for improving processes are what drive him. He enjoys the challenge of identifying issues and figuring out creative solutions. His leadership approach has been shaped by these principles, and he values collaboration across teams to deliver results.
“Every problem is an opportunity to make things better,” he says.
Looking into the Future
Shameer’s excitement for the future is palpable, especially as Compugen continues to grow and innovate.
“I’m incredibly pumped about Compugen’s growth trajectory,” he says. “The continuous evolution of technology is going to bring new opportunities for innovation. AI and automation are already transforming the way we work, and I’m excited to be at the forefront of that transformation at Compugen.”
Passion Beyond and Work-Life Balance
Outside of work, Shameer leads a balanced life, with a strong focus on fitness and travel.
“I enjoy going for long walks and exploring new trails,” he says. “It’s a great way to clear my mind, stay active, and recharge.”
For Shameer, staying physically active isn’t just about health — it’s a way to bring fresh perspectives into his professional life as well. He believes that maintaining a healthy work-life balance helps him bring renewed energy and ideas to the table.
Shameer is also deeply committed to giving back to the community. As a Brand Ambassador for NPower Canada, he volunteers his time to help new job hunters break into the IT market, offering tips and guidance based on his own experiences.
“It’s incredibly rewarding to help others navigate their career paths and see them succeed.”
Fun Facts + Leadership Aspirations
While Shameer’s journey has been shaped by hard work and perseverance, he’s also known for his lighthearted approach to life. When asked if he could switch roles with anyone in the company for a day, Shameer picks Terry Mirza.
“We’re both pretty good at juggling multiple hats, so why not trade them for a day?” he jokes. “Plus, I’d love to see what it’s like to be the Russell Peters of Compugen, bringing humour into the boardroom while leading with a vision.”
But in all seriousness, Shameer admires Terry’s leadership style and the journey he’s taken from grassroots roles to the C-suite.
"I’d love to have a front-row seat to Terry’s visionary leadership and learn how to bring empathy, humour, and strength into decision-making. His ability to lead with compassion while making tough calls is something I aspire to."
When it comes to superpowers, Shameer keeps it practical: “If I could have any superpower to help me excel in my role, it would be my own version of Chat GPT — Sham GPT!” he jokes. “Having worked across multiple domains at Compugen, I’ve gained a solid knowledge base. Being able to instantly provide solutions to roadblocks in any area would be incredibly efficient — and fun!”

As much as Shameer values his own contributions, he emphasizes the importance of teamwork in achieving success at Compugen.
“The success we achieve here is truly a team effort. Every individual at Compugen plays a crucial role in our collective achievements, and it’s this collaborative spirit that drives our success.”
