Mayor David West of Richmond Hill presents accolade to Harry Zarek at the culmination of The Journey
Compugen President and Chief Executive Officer Harry Zarek has been recognized by the City of Richmond Hill for his many years of philanthropic service to the community. The award was presented by Mayor David West during a staff event welcoming Julian Galley, who had completed a 3,400km month-long bike ride from Calgary to the Compugen headquarters in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada.
“Compugen has been such an important part of our community for so long. Harry has been a big supporter of humanitarian, community-changing betterment initiatives like The Journey. We’re not only thankful for Compugen being a part of the city but we’re that much more thankful for Harry as its leader for his continued efforts.
“The Mayor and members of council of the City of Richmond Hill extend acknowledgment and thanks for his many years of philanthropy and dedication to the betterment of both Compugen employees and society at large. The City is fortunate to have his leadership in our community,” Mayor West said during the ceremony.
Speaking at the event, Harry said, “I am delighted to receive this honour from the City of Richmond Hill. Change only happens when one person stands up and says, ‘I want to make a difference.’ That’s exactly what Julian did with The Journey, and he demonstrated that we could change the world, every one of us, one at a time. This is the kind of initiative that we have to support, and it’s one of our core values as an organization – whether we do it at work or in our personal life. Here, we had the opportunity to bring it together.
“I’d like to thank Mayor West for being here with us today, the Members of Council and the City of Richmond Hill for this great recognition,” he concluded.
