3,400km bike ride from Calgary to Richmond Hill in support of the Alzheimer Society of Canada
The Journey, a national Compugen adventure event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s research, has hit a donation milestone with over $20,000 raised – 100% of which will be directed toward the Alzheimer Society of Canada to support the organization’s various programs. Kicking off in June 2022, The Journey sees Compugen solutions architect Julian Galley make a 3,400-kilometre bike ride from his hometown of Calgary, AB to the company’s headquarters in Richmond Hill, ON.
A proud husband and father of 19-year-old twins, Julian merges his love of cycling and experience with the condition through his mother Joan’s journey with dementia in this initiative to support the Alzheimer Society. This massive athletic undertaking will see Julian hit 60 cities and towns across the country before finally arriving in Richmond Hill by the end of the month.
“I am grateful and overwhelmed for this outpouring of support. I know I am not alone in my experience with my mother’s dementia, and this shows that there are people out there going through the same journey. I’d like to thank everyone for their donation and their help in raising awareness for The Journey. We are more than halfway in at 1,900 kilometres – their support is what will keep me going until Richmond Hill,” Julian commented.
For those who’d like to follow Julian’s trip across Canada, he leveraged his technical expertise with Azure and the Internet of Things to make his voyage traceable via the web, complete with location data, speed, and vital information on the rider – giving family members and supporters the opportunity to join in on the ride.
