5 Technology Takeaways from RCC STORE24

1. Mobile POS as a Standard

As Online to Offline integrations continue to intensify, the need for retail Point of Sale (POS) systems that support complex, often mobile processes is becoming apparent. For retailers looking to satisfy their customers’ demands for a seamless transaction experience, mobile POS systems are evolving from nice to have to a must-have.

2. Automation to Counter Labor Shortages

The ongoing labor shortages in the retail sector are driving the adoption of solutions that enhance automation and improve efficiency. Technologies such as Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs), mobile associate collaboration tools, and self-service options are becoming top priorities for retail operations leaders.

3. Expanding Use of RFID Technology

In response to demands for streamlined and personalized customer experiences, leading retailers are continuing to expand their use of RFID technology. Initially used primarily for supply chain and inventory management, RFID is now being adopted for Point of Sale, product experience and loss prevention applications.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Asset Protection and Loss Prevention

With the rise of Organized Retail Crime (ORC), asset protection and loss prevention leaders are turning to AI to enhance video surveillance and gain deeper store insights. While AI-powered systems can detect suspicious behavior, reduce instances of theft, they can also provide valuable data that can be used to analyze traffic, optimize store layouts, and improve operations.

5. The Growing Importance of Network Connectivity

As data, connectivity, and security continue to play pivotal roles in transforming customer experiences, the importance of a robust network infrastructure continues to grow. Optimized and secure network is crucial in supporting a retailer's vision of a connected store, indispensable to deployment of both mobile and fixed POS, RFID, associate collaboration solutions, ESL labels and AI surveillance systems alike.

To illustrate how Compugen can help retailers realize new possibilities, here is a video of one of the most popular demos from Compugen’s booth at this year’s show. We highlight a modern point-of-sale process that starts with a fixed POS that incorporates RFID technology, continues with a Mobile device, and concludes with use of Mobile Payment.
